Directions to Brockdale Park Trail head

Lucas is northeast of Dallas, TX. From Dallas, go north on US 75 to the Bethany Drive exit in Allen and go east. Take Bethany Drive through Allen into Lucas (about 5 miles). Counting the light at the expressway exit, you will go through nine lights. The ninth light is at Bethany and FM 1378 where Lucas City Hall will be on the left. Go straight. In about ½ mile, when the road makes a sharp curve, you will see a stoplight and the Lucas Food Mart and gas station will be on your left. Turn left here on FM 3286 and go less than a mile to Brockdale Park Road. There is a brown Brockdale Park sign on the right just before the turn. It turns off to the right. If you get to the bridge over Lake Lavon you have gone too far. Follow Brockdale Park Road around to the trail head. You will drive through three 90-degree turns. The trail head is at the 3rd 90-degree turn on the right and is bordered by white pipe fence. If you get to the boat ramp you have gone too far.

The forecast just looks too darned cold!! We may have a weekday workday instead, keep an eye on this site.

Weather’s too hot and the lake is too high!

Stay cool and practice safe riding and hiking!

Equine Desensitizing Clinic

When: 19 Sept 2015
Where: Meyers Park in McKinney

The Collin County Extension Lone Star Equine Council and TTPA will be hosting an “Equine Desensitizing Clinic” on Saturday, September 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Myers Park and Event Center (7117 County Road 166, McKinney, TX. 75071).

The clinic will be presented by Scott Shepherd of 4 Shepherds Horsemanship. Please take advantage of the clinic if you and/or your horse are having difficulties with certain obstacles on the trail or arena.

You may bring your horse to the clinic at a cost of $150 per participant which will be limited to the first 30 to register or you may choose to just audit the clinic at a cost of $15 per auditor. If you are one of the 30 participating on horseback, you must have a current Coggins test.

The registration fee and auditing fee includes lunch.

Please register online at http://www.4shepherdshorsemanship.com/clinic-schedule-and-registration.html. (You will need to scroll down the page to the clinic on 19 Sept)

Myers Park will be open at 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the clinic.

After the spring rains lifted the lake level to record heights, the following drought lowered the lake back down to normal levels. But while the lake was flooded, all sorts of debris and trash were washed up and left at the high water mark, and are now littering the trail and the woods and fields next to the trail.

TTPA will celebrate National Public Lands Day by cleaning up trash on and next to the trail that was left by the lake flooding this past spring. If you bring the energy and willingness, we’ll supply the trash bags and dumpster to haul it all away!

When – 9am, Saturday, Sept 26, 2015, we’ll work till noontime
Where – Meet at Brockdale Trailhead
What to bring – gloves, bug spray, water and energy
